Foundation Church invites you to join us in a 28-day Digital Fast from January 1st to 28th, 2025. This guided journey is designed to help you decrease distraction, increase devotion, and use technology more intentionally.
Why a Digital Fast?
Darren Whitehead, Director of the Digital Fast Movement, explains it this way:
“A fast is an intentional period of time when we give something up. In this case, we’re giving up our devices (in most cases our phones) so we can loosen the grip they have on our attention.
You can also think about this journey as a “detox.” Over the twenty-eight days of our Digital Fast, you’ll detox from the negative effects screens have on your heart, mind, body, and soul. You’ll unplug from the urge to turn to your phone at the slightest hint of boredom. You’ll reorient to the people
You can also think about this journey as a “detox.” Over the twenty-eight days of our Digital Fast, you’ll detox from the negative effects screens have on your heart, mind, body, and soul. You’ll unplug from the urge to turn to your phone at the slightest hint of boredom. You’ll reorient to the people and pursuits that matter.
Here is the guiding principle I want you to understand about your phone: Not all apps are created equal, and they fall into two main buckets: utility or distraction.
Utility apps are helpful tools, such as a calculator or a GPS. Distraction apps are designed to steal your attention, like Candy Crush or social media.
Utility apps are not ruining your life. No one is addicted to their calculator! Distraction apps, on the other hand, waste your time and drain your soul.
The goal of a digital fast is to redesign our relationship with technology, keeping the utility apps and deleting the distraction apps (for now).
By eliminating the noise, you’ll reclaim your attention and redirect it to what you truly value.
You’ll form new habits and carry them forward after you’ve finished this fast—after all, the goal isn’t to grit your teeth and get through the next twenty-eight days! The goal is to change. To challenge yourself. To create a new relationship with technology that will maximize its usefulness and minimize its harm for the rest of your life.”
